Minerva Fellows are graduates of Union College who live and work in Ddegeya Village for nine months. Past fellows include Becky Broadwin and Stephen Po-Chedley (2008 - 2009), Monica Rowett and Tom Perry (2009 - 2010), and Sarah Yergeau and Elliot Harmon (2010 - 2011).

Mark O'Shea and Brendan Kinnane are the Minerva Fellows for this year and will be residents at Engeye Health Clinic from July 2011 through April 2012.

One of the Minerva Fellows created a video for the 2010-2011 fellows; a great peak into this great program. You can access the video here.

Brendan Kinnane Brendan Kinnane
My name is Brendan Kinnane and I am from Little Compton, RI. During my undergraduate studies at Union College, I developed an interest in international development and a desire to pursue humanitarian work abroad. I graduated this past June with a Bachelor degree in Economics and a minor in History. As a recipient of Union College’s Minerva Fellowship, I will be living at and working in cooperation with Engeye Health Clinic and Ddegeya Village for the next nine months. Following a philosophy of collaborative innovation and social entrepreneurship, I will be volunteering in a variety of ways here at the clinic and throughout the community. My hope is to contribute to the health care, education, and local development efforts taking place in the area. Please visit my blog brendankinnane.tumblr.com to read about my experience and feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions.

markoshea Mark O'Shea
My name is Mark O’Shea and I am from Livermore, Maine. In June of 2011 I graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York with my Bachelor’s degree in Economics. During my sophomore year at Union I enrolled in a social entrepreneurship class that was taught by the first group of Union College’s Minerva Fellows. This allowed me to hear, first-hand, about their experiences working abroad with NGO’s in several developing countries. Having always had a strong interest in the Peace Corp, I found the Minerva Fellowship to be a great opportunity to pursue my goals of working on sustainable innovations abroad. Having been accepted into the program and paired with the Engeye Clinic, I am now living in Ddegeya Village,Uganda for the next nine months. Throughout these nine months Brendan Kinnane (Another Union College graduate) and I will be volunteering our time working with the clinic, teaching at the local primary school (St. Gertrude’s), and working with the local people in hopes of creating sustainable projects that will have a lasting impression on both the Engeye Clinic and the surrounding community. To find out more information about what Brendan and I are working on and experiencing during our time in Uganda visit my blog at markoshea.tumblr.com.
