| Engeye strives to maximize donor fund utilization for furthering its mission by keeping overhead at a minimum. All US-based staff members are volunteers and Engeye has no physical offices outside of Ddegeya Village, Uganda. We share organizational and physical resources with our sister organization, Engeye Scholars, which provides scholarships and seeks to meet the educational needs of the children of Ddegeya Village. Engeye Scholars was founded in 2009, and files combined taxes with Engeye Health Clinic. 2009 SummaryIn 2009, Engeye received a total of $75,449 in donations, including a $2,826 grant from American Medical Women’s Association, and $1,800 in corporate matching grants. This total includes $25,277 specifically for Engeye Scholars. Engeye Health Clinic collected $2,833 in donations from patients seeking treatment in Ddegeya. Engeye recommends a donation of 3,000 Ugandan shillings (approx. $1.50) per patient visit, but provides medical care regardless of a patient’s ability to donate. Engeye Health Clinic spent $35,362 in 2009, including: $15,892 (45%) for physical clinic improvements and expansion, $8,459 (24%) for pharmaceuticals and other clinic supplies, $6,746 (19%) for Ugandan staff salaries, and $4,265 (12%) for publicity, fundraising, and financial maintenance-related fees. For details on Engeye Scholars spending, please visit their website. 2010 Forecast For 2010 we have forecast $37,100 in clinic spending, not including clinic expansion projects. We have added staff members and increased Ugandan staff salaries to be in-line with local standards since 2009. Due to a large increase in malaria cases seen early in 2010, necessitating expensive testing and medication, we have forecast an increase in pharmaceuticals and testing costs. We expect minimal costs to be incurred for a Fall 2010 fundraising drive.
Funding Our FutureAs an ever-increasing number of Ddegeya citizens come to rely on Engeye for healthcare and education, we feel it is prudent to create a cash reserve sufficient to fund one year of clinic activities. After funding this cash reserve, our spending priorities for 2010 are to fund the construction of staff housing (which we believe is instrumental in recruiting staff), and to complete the outfitting of our pathology lab.
