Who We Are

Engeye is a non-profit organization that works to empower the people of Ddegeya Village and surrounding areas in rural Uganda. We founded and continue to support a local health clinic and maternity center, and we also work to support high-achieving local children in accessing a quality education.  Furthermore, we work to support an artisans program, where women can sell their crafted goods to earn income for their families.

Our Origin Story

Engeye

| Pronounced: N – gā - yā |

“Engeye” is the Luganda word for “white monkey,” one of the many clans representing families in Uganda.

It’s also the clan of Engeye’s co-founder and clinic manager, John Kalule. Luganda is the native language of the Buganda tribe and kingdom in Uganda, and it is the most widely spoken language in the region surrounding our clinic.
